WPP Media Unveils ‘From Concept to Scale’: The Commerce-First Launch Playbook for India’s E commerce Landscape

Published on: September 30, 2026

Delhi, September 30th, 2026: WPP Media India today launched its new playbook, ‘From Concept  to Scale: The Commerce-First Launch Playbook for India’, a first-of-its-kind framework revealing that  the future of new product launches is no longer just campaign-driven, but decisively commerce first. The playbook highlights a fundamental shift where commerce platforms have evolved from  mere points of transaction into full-funnel innovation engines for demand discovery, validation, and  agile scaling.

Combining insights from leading platforms, real-world brand case studies, and industry specialists,  the playbook explores the evolving dynamics that are reshaping how brands take products to  market. It reveals how commerce-first launch strategies allow brands to capture behavioural proof  overstated intent, test propositions in real shopping environments, and de-risk national rollouts.  The playbook highlights how launch opportunities are expanding rapidly across non-metro India,  accelerated by quick commerce, retail media networks, and creator-led discovery ecosystems.

The playbook indicates key structural shifts shaping the new launch landscape:

  • E-commerce is evolving into an innovation engine: Online platforms are no longer just  distribution points, but environments where brands discover demand, test propositions,  and learn from real shopper behaviour.
  • Behavioural proof replaces stated intent: Observing what consumers discover, click,  consider, abandon, trial, review, and repeat in live or simulated listings delivers sharper  feedback than traditional market research alone.
  • Non-metro India is central to launch growth: Tier 2+ cities contributed ~65% of new e retail shoppers acquired over 2024–25, making non-metro India central to identifying high potential cohorts and pin codes before committing broad distribution.
  • Quick commerce compresses trial and learning cycles: With 10-to-20-minute delivery  driving impulse trials, quick commerce represented 16–17% of India’s e-commerce GMV in  2025 and is projected by Bain & Company and Flipkart to contribute 45–50% of incremental  e-retail GMV through 2030.
  • Omnichannel scale must follow digital proof: With ~90% of Indian retail remaining offline,  digital demand validation serves as the proof layer before expanding into general trade,  modern trade, and specialized retail.
  • Every channel performs a specific job: Discovery, intent, purchase, and fulfilment are  distributed, requiring a deliberate launch architecture across D2C, marketplaces, quick  commerce, retail media, and creators.

To help brands operationalize these insights, the report introduces structured decision tools,  including a 90-day gated launch operating system, commercial health guardrails, a quick  commerce entry framework, and seven core questions for commerce leaders. Together, these

frameworks serve as actionable pathways for moving from concept validation to repeatable  omnichannel scale.

Ashwin Padmanabhan, COO, WPP Media South Asia said, “We are spearheading the  transformation of commerce in India, unlocking new opportunities for brands to grow. As new  brands continue to launch at a frenetic pace the opportunity is not simply to launch faster, but to  learn earlier, activate smarter, and scale with greater precision based on real shopper evidence.”

Sairam Ranganathan, Head of Ecommerce, WPP Media India, said “The future of product launches  in India is decisively commerce-first. The launch landscape is becoming increasingly dynamic,  with commerce platforms evolving beyond points of transaction into powerful environments for  discovery, trial, conversion, and learning. This playbook is a catalyst for growth, equipping brands  to test, learn, optimize, and scale with greater confidence.”

Commerce-first launch planning is not a passing tactic, but a leadership operating system. Today’s  market demands that brands build launch systems that learn continuously, protect commercial  health from Day 1, and scale only where repeatable demand is proven. The journey from concept  to scale has begun.
