InterGlobe Aviation, the parent company of IndiGo, has announced the appointment of William Walsh as the airline’s Chief Executive Officer, subject to the necessary regulatory approvals.
Walsh, who currently serves as the Director General of the International Air Transport Association (IATA), will conclude his tenure with the global aviation body on July 31, 2026, and is expected to assume his new role at IndiGo by August 3, 2026.
Known across the aviation industry as Willie Walsh, he brings decades of leadership experience. Before joining IATA, Walsh served as Chief Executive Officer of British Airways and later led International Airlines Group (IAG), overseeing airlines including Aer Lingus, British Airways, Iberia, Level, and Vueling. Earlier in his career, he progressed from pilot to Chief Operating Officer and eventually Chief Executive Officer at Aer Lingus.
As CEO of IndiGo, Walsh will be responsible for the airline’s overall strategy and operations. His priorities include advancing transformational initiatives, improving operational performance, expanding the airline’s network and commercial capabilities, and strengthening the customer experience as IndiGo continues its domestic and international growth.
He will work alongside the Board and senior leadership team to guide the airline through its next phase of expansion and reinforce its position in the global aviation market.
