Indian Advertising Bids Farewell to Digital Pioneer Atul Hegde

Atul Hegde, Founder and Chairman of YAAP Digital and a respected figure in India’s advertising and digital marketing industry, passed away on Tuesday morning following a heart attack. He was 57 years old. According to reports, he passed away at around 8:00 a.m.

Hegde’s untimely demise marks the loss of one of India’s pioneering entrepreneurs in digital marketing, leaving behind a lasting legacy across the advertising, technology, and startup ecosystems.

Throughout a career spanning more than two decades, Hegde established himself as a visionary entrepreneur and business leader, combining expertise in advertising with a strong focus on technology, digital innovation, content, and evolving consumer trends.

He founded YAAP, transforming it into a full-service digital marketing and technology company with operations across India and international markets. Under his leadership, the company expanded its capabilities across content creation, influencer marketing, digital media, data-driven marketing, and technology-enabled solutions.

Beyond YAAP, Hegde played an active role in India’s startup ecosystem. Through Rainmaker Ventures, which he co-founded, he invested in and mentored emerging businesses, reflecting his long-standing commitment to entrepreneurship and innovation.

Before launching YAAP, Hegde built an extensive career in branding, communications, and digital marketing. His experience in the advertising industry inspired him to create an independent agency built around technology, creativity, and integrated marketing services.

In recent years, he had been leading YAAP through a period of rapid expansion. The company reported significant financial growth during FY26, with profit after tax almost doubling compared to the previous year. Hegde also outlined ambitious plans to develop YAAP into a globally competitive, technology-driven agency network.

His growth strategy centred on artificial intelligence, proprietary technology platforms, strategic acquisitions, and international expansion, with a vision of integrating creativity, data, technology, and content into a unified marketing ecosystem.

Outside his professional life, he was also known for his passion for sneaker culture and contemporary lifestyle, interests that became closely associated with his public identity.
