Dentsu Secures Tata Group’s Consolidated IPL Media Mandate Across Key Brands

Published on: May 6, 2026

The Tata Group has reportedly awarded its consolidated Indian Premier League (IPL) media mandate to Dentsu, with the deal estimated to be valued between ₹180–220 crore, according to industry sources.

The mandate was managed centrally by Tata Sons and included participation from several group companies such as Tata Motors, Air India Express, and CaratLane. The move reflects a more unified and strategic approach to leveraging the scale and reach of the Indian Premier League across the group’s consumer-facing businesses.

The pitch process also saw competition from Publicis Groupe and Havas. At the time of reporting, Dentsu had not issued an official statement regarding the development.

This consolidated mandate comes as the Tata Group continues to align its marketing and media investments across businesses to improve efficiency and maximize impact. Major sporting events like the IPL remain critical platforms for brand visibility, audience engagement, and integrated storytelling across diverse sectors.

Meanwhile, the group’s aviation arm is undergoing a significant leadership transition. Air India is expected to finalize its next chief executive officer at a board meeting scheduled for May 7, following the resignation of former CEO Campbell Wilson.

Reports suggest that the airline has shortlisted both internal candidates and global aviation leaders, indicating a balance between continuity and fresh strategic direction. Names such as Nipun Aggarwal and Vinod Kannan have emerged as potential contenders.

The board is also expected to review financial performance for FY26 and evaluate cost-control strategies amid ongoing operational and macroeconomic challenges.

This leadership decision is seen as crucial for Air India’s next phase under Tata Group ownership. Since its acquisition, the airline has been undergoing a transformation focused on fleet upgrades, service enhancements, and network expansion. However, operational complexities and external pressures continue to pose challenges.

The incoming CEO will play a key role in stabilizing operations, improving profitability, and advancing long-term strategic priorities, including strengthening global competitiveness and deeper integration within the group’s aviation ecosystem.
