Edelman Parent DJE to Acquire WPP’s 21% Stake in PRAP Japan

Published on: October 5, 2026

DJE Inc, the parent company of Edelman, is set to acquire WPP’s 21% holding in Japanese public relations firm PRAP Japan, making DJE the company’s largest single shareholder.

WPP has held the minority stake in PRAP Japan since 2002. The proposed transaction will see DJE, the parent group of the world’s largest independent PR firm, deepen its presence in Japan’s communications market.

Established in 1970, PRAP Japan is among the country’s leading PR companies. The firm has 378 employees and reported revenue of ¥7.68 billion (US$48 million), based on stock exchange data.

DJE currently employs more than 50 people in Japan, which has emerged as one of its stronger-performing markets in Asia in recent years. The group generated an estimated US$8.5 million in fee income in the country following 16% growth last year.

Japan has remained a challenging market for international PR networks, with domestic communications firms continuing to hold a strong position. The investment in PRAP Japan provides DJE with a larger presence in the market through a partnership with an established local player.

The transaction values WPP’s 21% stake at approximately ¥1.27 billion (US$8 million). The deal is expected to be completed by the end of October, subject to the required conditions.
