Five Indian menswear brands rank among Asia’s top 27 retailers

MUMBAI, SEPTEMBER 29, 2026 – Five Indian professional menswear brands rank among Asia’s top 27 retailers in Inside Retail Asia’s inaugural Brand Conviction Index: Asia’s Top 100 Retailers. Louis Philippe ranks sixth, followed by Allen Solly in 20th, Park Avenue in 24th, Van Heusen in 26th and Peter England in 27th.

More than twice as many surveyed urban Indian consumers recommend Louis Philippe as currently buy it.

That gap between who buys from a brand and who believes in it is what the index is designed to measure, and it produces results that challenge how retailers think about scale, advocacy, and future growth.

The index is the first independently verified ranking of the region’s most believed-in retailers. It draws on more than 70,000 consumer interviews across 11 Asian markets and 12 months of continuous data from YouGov BrandIndex up to May 31, 2026.

The five brands serve different budgets and styles, including Louis Philippe’s premium ready-to-wear and Peter England’s affordable officewear. Park Avenue is part of the Raymond Group, while the other four sit within the Aditya Birla Group.

Their presence across competing groups reflects how strongly professional identity shapes what consumers choose to wear to work. Allen Solly’s ‘Friday Dressing’ offered a more relaxed way to dress for the office, while Van Heusen’s ‘Most Fashionable Professional’ campaign connected clothing with career identity.

“Most retail rankings tell you who is biggest,” said Robert Stockdill, Global Head of News, Inside Retail Asia. “The Brand Conviction Index tells you something more commercially important by showing which brands consumers truly believe in and how far that belief extends beyond their current customers.”

Jockey ranks 56th. More than a quarter of surveyed urban Indian consumers currently buy the brand, and an even larger share would recommend it.

Online marketplace Flipkart ranks third in Asia, behind Rolex and JD.com and ahead of Shopee. More than half of surveyed urban Indian consumers currently shop on Flipkart, and even more would consider shopping there.

Flipkart’s profile describes how the company helped make online shopping accessible. Cash on delivery let customers pay when their orders arrived. The company also extended delivery beyond the biggest cities, bringing a wider range of products to shoppers in smaller cities and rural areas.

“Conviction is a dimension of brand health that’s often overlooked, because it lives beyond the transaction,” said Angela Smith, Head of Client Growth – APAC at YouGov.
