Hitachi has named Anand Birje as the Chief Executive Officer of its Digital Engineering and AI Business Unit (DEAI BU), a newly established business unit that combines the capabilities of GlobalLogic, Hitachi Digital Services and Hitachi Vantara.
Birje shared the news through a social media post, highlighting that the integrated business will help enterprises accelerate digital transformation through cloud, data, artificial intelligence, digital engineering and IT-OT integration. Based in Santa Clara, California, he assumed the role in August 2026 and will oversee operations across industries including energy, mobility and other connected sectors.
The newly formed Digital Engineering and AI Business Unit will leverage Hitachi’s Lumada 3.0 framework and HMAX platform to support enterprise transformation. According to Birje, the business will combine physical AI and digital AI capabilities while collaborating with technology partners such as Nvidia, Google, Microsoft, AWS, OpenAI, Anthropic and ServiceNow.
The appointment reflects Hitachi’s continued investment in strengthening its AI, cloud and digital engineering capabilities to support evolving enterprise technology needs.
Welcoming Birje to the organisation, Jun Abe, Executive Vice President and Executive Officer, Head of Digital Systems & Services at Hitachi, said Birje brings more than 25 years of expertise across cloud, data and artificial intelligence. Abe added that his leadership will help accelerate Hitachi’s Physical AI strategy while supporting the global expansion of the HMAX platform.
Before joining Hitachi, Birje served as Chief Executive Officer and Board Member at Encora, where he led the company’s global digital engineering business during a three-year tenure before its acquisition by Coforge.
Earlier, he spent nearly two decades at HCL Technologies, holding several senior leadership positions. As President of Digital Business Services and a member of the executive leadership team, he led the company’s digital consulting, application services and data businesses, helping expand the business significantly during his tenure.
His previous responsibilities at HCL Technologies also included serving as Global Head of Digital and Analytics Services and Executive Vice President for Infrastructure and Cloud Services in North America. In addition, he represented HCL Technologies on the board of Morado Ventures and served on the World Economic Forum’s ICT Global Committee.
