Perplexity, the AI-powered information platform, has launched Comet Plus, a $5 subscription designed to provide users with premium content from trusted publishers and journalists while creating a fair revenue model for the creators behind the content.
Comet Plus offers subscribers access to high-quality articles, research, and insights directly within the Comet browser, making it easier to find reliable news and knowledge in an age dominated by AI-generated summaries and automated assistants.
Unlike traditional click-based revenue models, Comet Plus introduces a three-tier compensation system for publishers:
Human Traffic – Direct readership of articles and content.
Search Citations – When AI answers are informed by publishers’ work.
Agent Actions – When AI assistants use content to complete user tasks.
This innovative system ensures that publishers and journalists are fairly compensated for all forms of engagement, recognizing their value across both human and AI interactions. Perplexity has allocated $42.5 million to be distributed among participating publishers based on usage metrics, covering human visits, search citations, and AI-driven tasks.

This subscription ensures journalism remains sustainable, relevant, and trusted.”
All subscription revenue, minus a small portion for computing costs, will be shared with participating publishers. Comet Plus also integrates into Perplexity’s Pro and Max memberships, making it available to a broader user base while reinforcing a sustainable economic framework for the publishing industry.
With Comet Plus, Perplexity positions publishers and journalists as key stakeholders in shaping the future of online information, ensuring that quality journalism thrives even as AI reshapes content consumption.
