Meta Appoints Alex Schultz as First Chief Data Officer, Denise Moreno Takes Charge as Chief Marketing Officer

Published on: July 2, 2026

Meta has announced a major leadership reshuffle, appointing longtime executive Alex Schultz as its first-ever Chief Data Officer (CDO). The newly established role underscores the company’s focus on strengthening its data, research, and analytics capabilities as artificial intelligence continues to play a larger role in business decision-making.

As part of the leadership transition, Denise Moreno has been named Meta’s new Chief Marketing Officer (CMO), succeeding Schultz in overseeing the company’s global marketing function.

Schultz shared the announcement through a LinkedIn post, highlighting the growing importance of data-driven decision-making in the age of AI. “Today, I’m excited to announce that I’m becoming Meta’s first Chief Data Officer. Over the last few years, I’ve had the privilege of leading both Marketing and Analytics. As AI has accelerated, I’ve become increasingly convinced that data, research and experimentation are going to continue be some of the most important strategic capabilities for every company. Still, they need to be transformed, he wrote.

In his new position, Schultz will focus on enhancing how Meta leverages data and AI to improve decision-making across the organization. His responsibilities will include strengthening the company’s data infrastructure while advancing AI-powered analytics, research, and experimentation.

My focus in this new role will be helping transform how Meta learns and makes decisions in the AI era, he said.

Schultz also highlighted Meta’s progress in AI-enabled analytics, including its internally developed Analytics Agent, which he described as the company’s most widely used AI agent. He noted that Meta has also been modernising its analytics infrastructure to support this transformation.

“The impact of AI will only be as good as the data, experimentation and scientific rigor behind using it, and I believe helping build that foundation is one of the most important opportunities in front of us,” Schultz wrote.

Taking over as Chief Marketing Officer, Denise Moreno brings nearly two decades of experience within Meta. A 17-year company veteran, she most recently served as Global Senior Vice President of Consumer Marketing and Growth, leading global marketing initiatives for Meta’s consumer products, including Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, and Meta Quest.

Industry reports also indicate that Moreno briefly assumed CMO responsibilities last year while Schultz was preparing for Meta’s FTC trial.

Schultz joined Meta in 2007 and has held several leadership roles spanning growth marketing, analytics, internationalisation, and marketing. Prior to becoming Chief Data Officer, he served as Chief Marketing Officer and Vice President of Analytics.

During his tenure as VP of Analytics between 2015 and 2026, he led Meta’s global data science and data engineering teams, supporting strategic planning, business intelligence, competitive analysis, user growth, and engagement initiatives. As CMO, he also oversaw the company’s global marketing, product analytics, consumer insights, creative, and experience functions.
