IndiGo, has announced the appointment of Amitabh Kant as a Non-Executive Director on its Board of Directors, subject to regulatory and shareholder approvals.
A highly respected civil servant and former CEO of NITI Aayog, Kant brings with him over four decades of public policy leadership and global diplomatic experience. He most recently served as India’s G20 Sherpa to Prime Minister Narendra Modi during India’s G20 Presidency, where his leadership was instrumental in delivering the New Delhi Leaders’ Declaration. The declaration focused on addressing global challenges, expanding India’s digital public infrastructure, and initiating bold reforms in climate finance, geopolitics, and technological innovation.
Throughout his distinguished career, Kant has championed a range of progressive national initiatives, including the Green Hydrogen Mission, National Mission on Transformative Mobility and Battery Storage, and the Aspirational Districts Program (ADP). He has also held key leadership positions such as Director on the Board of the National Highways Authority of India and Member of India’s National Statistical Commission.
Recognized for his pioneering work in tourism and branding, Kant was the visionary behind Kerala’s ‘God’s Own Country’ campaign and the globally acclaimed Incredible India initiative, both of which demonstrated his deep understanding of branding’s role in economic growth. His contributions to infrastructure development include major projects like the Delhi-Mumbai Industrial Corridor and the expansion of Calicut Airport.
