ChatGPT Ads expands to Southeast Asia and Taiwan

Published on: September 28, 2026

OpenAI is expanding ChatGPT Ads across Southeast Asia and Taiwan, with the service rolling out in Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam and Taiwan. The expansion follows ChatGPT Ads launches in Australia, New Zealand, Japan, South Korea and India, extending the advertising platform’s reach to businesses across more markets in the Asia Pacific region.

Advertisers in the newly launched markets can access ChatGPT Ads through OpenAI’s Ads Solutions team, agency partners including dentsu, Havas Media, Omnicom Media, Publicis Groupe and WPP, as well as technology partners. Eligible businesses can also use Ads Manager for self-service access.

OpenAI said the advertising platform is designed to support broader access to ChatGPT by helping fund free and low-cost access to the service. Ads are available to users on the Free and Go plans, while Plus, Pro and Enterprise subscriptions remain ad-free.

“We’re at the beginning of a new chapter for advertising, with AI creating new ways for businesses and people to connect. Our expansion into more markets across Asia brings that opportunity to businesses of every size, from global brands looking for new ways to grow to entrepreneurs and startups running their first campaign.” —Dave Dugan, Vice President and Head of Global Ads Solutions, OpenAI

ChatGPT Ads Creates a New Marketing Channel

The expansion gives marketers another channel to connect with consumers while they are actively researching products, comparing alternatives and evaluating their options.

People use ChatGPT for a range of decision-making activities, from planning travel and selecting business software to researching products and furnishing their homes. Through these conversations, users can communicate their requirements, priorities and limitations, creating opportunities for advertisers to introduce relevant products and services during discovery and consideration.

Shopee is among the businesses expanding its collaboration with OpenAI as ChatGPT Ads reaches Southeast Asia and Taiwan.

“OpenAI is a valued strategic partner for Shopee as we explore how AI can enhance the e-commerce experience for buyers while supporting sellers in growing their businesses. Across our markets, we are expanding access to AI-powered tools that help buyers discover what they need and enable sellers to reach and serve customers more effectively. Following the launch of ChatGPT Ads in Brazil, we are pleased to extend this collaboration to Southeast Asia and Taiwan, marking another step in our deepening partnership with OpenAI.” —Peggy Zhu, Executive Director, Brand and Growth Marketing, Shopee

Advertising Principles and User Trust

OpenAI said user trust remains central to the development and expansion of ChatGPT Ads. The company’s advertising principles include keeping conversations private from advertisers and not selling customer data.

Ads displayed in ChatGPT are clearly identified and kept separate from ChatGPT’s responses. Advertising does not influence the answers generated by ChatGPT, while users retain control over ad personalization. Paid plans also provide an ad-free experience.

Expanding the Global ChatGPT Ads Platform

The Southeast Asia and Taiwan rollout follows OpenAI’s recent expansion of ChatGPT Ads into additional international markets. OpenAI previously announced that ChatGPT Ads had reached a $1 billion annualized revenue run rate in less than 200 days following launch, with tens of thousands of advertisers using the platform.

With the latest expansion, ChatGPT Ads is available in more than 60 countries. OpenAI is continuing to develop the platform with additional markets, advertising formats, optimization capabilities and measurement solutions planned for future rollout.

The company said its ongoing focus is on expanding access to AI, maintaining user trust, delivering relevant advertising experiences and helping businesses of different sizes connect with consumers as they explore products and services.

Businesses interested in advertising through ChatGPT can access the platform through OpenAI’s Ads Manager.
