Nikita Bier Appointed Head of Product at X

X (formerly Twitter) has appointed Nikita Bier as its new Head of Product, aiming to reignite the platform’s product vision and strengthen its position in the ever-evolving social media landscape. Known for his knack for building viral, teen-focused platforms, Bier brings a proven track record of innovation and user engagement.

Bier is best recognized as the creator of “Gas” and “TBH”—two apps that quickly rose to prominence among Gen Z users, with both being acquired by Discord and Facebook respectively. His background in crafting intuitive and culturally resonant products aligns with X’s ambition to become an “everything app” encompassing messaging, content creation, video, and in-app payments.

In a now-viral post on X, Bier referenced a 2022 message to Elon Musk, where he pitched himself as a potential VP of Product to help transform the platform into the leading destination for messaging, communities, and creativity. That vision is now set to be realized as he assumes leadership at one of tech’s most talked-about companies.

Bier has also served as a venture partner at Lightspeed Venture Partners and advised the Solana Foundation, contributing to blockchain and Web3 projects that push technological boundaries.

As part of his mandate at X, Bier will focus on enhancing user experience through personalization and AI. Specifically, he plans to leverage the platform’s in-house chatbot, Grok, to deliver “hyper-relevant timelines” and help users better navigate and understand trending content. He’s also teased improvements to core features such as notifications and shared a prototype of Grok during his interview process—underscoring his hands-on approach and product-first mindset.

As X works to reverse declining user numbers and build out its video-first capabilities, payment systems, and AI integrations, Bier’s arrival signals a renewed focus on growth, cultural relevance, and product excellence.

With fierce competition from Meta’s Threads and other emerging platforms, Bier’s appointment may prove pivotal in shaping X’s future as more than just a microblogging app—but a truly multifunctional ecosystem.
