Vivek Das Steps Down as Managing Partner at EssenceMediacom

Vivek Das has stepped down from his role as Managing Partner at EssenceMediacom. Das had been leading the agency’s Media Futures Group (MFG), overseeing Google-focused operations across India and Southeast Asia.

Though his tenure at EssenceMediacom was relatively short—he joined in June 2024—it was a strategically significant one, aligning closely with the agency’s transformation goals amid ongoing change at the parent company WPP. A successor for the role has yet to be named.

Das’s exit comes at a time of widespread leadership churn across the WPP network. Just last month, GroupM rebranded to become WPP Media. That was followed by the announcement of WPP CEO Mark Read’s decision to step down later this year. Most recently, WPP Media underwent a sweeping organizational overhaul—further underlining the shifting dynamics within the global advertising conglomerate.

Before joining EssenceMediacom, Das served as CEO of Zoo Media and its flagship agency FoxyMoron. There, he led the independent network through a critical period of transformation, stepping down in February 2024.

He is perhaps best known for his impactful 13-year run at Mindshare, where he served as Vice President and led consulting, data, analytics, and technology initiatives. Throughout his career, Das has worked with some of India’s most prominent brands, including Airtel, PepsiCo, Ford, Nokia, and HUL.

Across two decades, he has held leadership roles at marquee agencies including Wunderman, Omnicom Media Group, ISHIR Digital, and Webchutney—building a reputation for integrating media strategy with data, martech, and inclusive leadership. His work has consistently championed DEI, people-first cultures, and mentoring the next generation of talent.

While both Vivek Das and WPP Media have remained tight-lipped about the reasons for the exit, industry insiders view this as yet another sign of the rapidly evolving nature of the advertising ecosystem.
