Tata Group, along with Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), has entered into a strategic, multi-layered partnership with OpenAI to accelerate AI-driven innovation across enterprise, consumer, and social sectors in India and global markets.
As part of the collaboration, thousands of Tata Group employees have been granted access to Enterprise ChatGPT to enhance productivity and innovation. TCS has also adopted OpenAI’s Codex to strengthen software development processes and improve engineering performance across projects.
The alliance focuses on building industry-specific Agentic AI solutions by combining OpenAI’s advanced AI platforms with TCS’ deep domain and sectoral expertise. The companies have also launched joint go-to-market initiatives aimed at helping enterprises deploy, integrate, and scale AI systems tailored to their operational needs.
On the infrastructure front, TCS’ HyperVault division has signed a multi-year agreement with OpenAI to develop AI infrastructure in India. In the first phase, TCS has committed to building 100MW capacity, with the potential to scale up to 1 GW. The infrastructure is designed to power next-generation AI workloads and strengthen India’s standing in global AI innovation.
Beyond commercial initiatives, the collaboration extends to social impact. The OpenAI Foundation and TCS are working together to deliver AI education and resources to Indian youth. The program includes technology toolkits for NGOs and youth-focused initiatives aimed at improving livelihoods for at least one million young Indians.
TCS launched HyperVault in 2025 to provide AI-ready infrastructure for hyperscalers and AI-centric organisations, powered by green energy and built with high-density, liquid-cooled data centre capabilities.
Sam Altman, CEO, OpenAI, said, “India is already leading the way in AI adoption, and with its talent, ambition, and strong government support, it is well placed to help shape its future. Through OpenAI for India and our partnership with Tata Group, we’re working together to build the infrastructure, skills, and local partnerships needed to build AI with India, for India, and in India, so that more people across the country can access and benefit from it.”
N Chandrasekaran, Chairman, Tata Sons, said, “This deep collaboration between OpenAI and Tata Group marks a major milestone in India’s vision to become a global leader in AI. We are pleased to partner with OpenAI to create state-of-the-art AI infrastructure in India. This is a unique opportunity for OpenAI and TCS to transform industries. Together we will skill India’s youth and empower them to succeed in the AI era.”
