OpenAI is expanding ChatGPT Ads into 26 additional countries, taking the advertising platform’s global reach to 89 countries. The expansion follows the platform’s launch just over eight months ago, during which more than 100,000 advertisers have run campaigns on ChatGPT.
With more than 1.2 billion people using ChatGPT every week, the platform offers businesses an opportunity to connect with consumers as they explore ideas, compare products and services, and make decisions. Relevant advertisements can introduce users to options that align with their needs and preferences.
The latest rollout builds on recent expansions across Europe, Southeast Asia and Taiwan, extending the availability of ChatGPT Ads to more markets worldwide.
Advertising also supports OpenAI’s efforts to maintain free and lower-cost access to ChatGPT. Ads will appear exclusively on the Free and Go plans, while Plus, Pro and Enterprise subscriptions will remain ad-free.
Following its launches in Mexico and Brazil, OpenAI is introducing ChatGPT Ads in 14 additional Latin American countries, including Argentina, Chile, Colombia and Peru. The expansion also covers markets across Europe, the Middle East, Africa and Asia, with Nigeria, South Africa, Serbia, Ukraine, Cambodia, Bangladesh and Pakistan among the countries included.
Businesses can access ChatGPT Ads in the newly supported markets through technology partners or through the self-service Ads Manager platform.
ChatGPT allows users to describe their needs, ask follow-up questions and refine their choices through conversations. This creates opportunities for advertisers to reach audiences while they are actively considering different products and services.
For example, someone preparing for their first marathon may begin by exploring meal plans for race week before narrowing the options according to dietary requirements and available cooking time. An advertisement relevant to that conversation could introduce a grocery delivery service that meets those needs.
Through ChatGPT Ads, local businesses, regional brands and international companies can introduce their offerings during these consideration stages, when consumers are evaluating alternatives and deciding which options best suit them.
OpenAI’s advertising approach is built around maintaining user trust and protecting the privacy of ChatGPT conversations. Under its advertising principles, conversations remain private from advertisers, and customer data is not sold.
Advertisements are clearly labelled and kept separate from ChatGPT’s responses. Advertising also does not influence the answers generated by ChatGPT, maintaining a distinction between paid placements and the platform’s responses to users.
The company aims to make advertising relevant and useful to consumers while providing businesses with an effective way to reach potential customers.
With ChatGPT Ads now available in 89 countries, OpenAI’s next phase of development will focus on introducing additional advertising formats, campaign objectives, buying options and measurement capabilities.
The company is also exploring new ways for businesses to engage with consumers through advertising experiences that fit more naturally into ChatGPT.
As more people use the platform to explore their needs and evaluate options, OpenAI sees an opportunity to help users discover products and services while supporting businesses of different sizes in reaching potential customers and growing their operations.
