Sony Pictures Networks India (SPNI) has named Gaurav Banerjee as its new Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer (CEO), effective on or before August 26, 2024, subject to regulatory approvals. After a remarkable 25 years leading SPNI to unprecedented heights, Gaurav Banerjee will succeed N.P. Singh, who will take on the role of Non-Executive Chairman to support this transition through the end of the fiscal year.
Banerjee brings a wealth of experience in content creation and strategic leadership, having worked in the field for more than 20 years. Previously, he was the Business Head for Star Bharat, Hindi & English Movies, Kids & Infotainment, and Regional (East) as well as the Head of Content for Hindi Entertainment & Disney+ Hotstar. In these capacities, Banerjee led original series and films that struck a deep chord with a wide range of viewers in addition to overseeing the curation of content in several languages, solidifying his reputation as a creative and visionary leader.
In these roles, Gaurav oversaw the creation of original television shows and movies and oversaw the curation of content in several languages. His endeavors were resounding with a wide range of audiences, solidifying his position as a trailblazing leader. His vision made it possible for programs like Imlie, Ghum Hai Kisi Ke Pyaar Mein, and Anupama to have high viewership ratings. Award-winning Disney+ and Hotstar streaming originals were made possible in large part by Gaurav. Emmy-nominated Aarya, Special Ops, The Freelancer, and The Night Manager are among the notable works.
