National, 14th May 2025: This Mother’s Day, Swiggy witnessed a delightful surge in heartfelt gestures, with cakes, thalis, and sit-down meals emerging as the top ways Indians expressed love for their moms. From record-breaking cake orders to fine-dining experiences, here’s how India honored the most special woman in their lives.
Cakes,Delivered With Love:
Mother’s Day 2025 saw 302,117 cakes ordered across 270,257 orders, peaking at an astonishing 620 cakes per minute at 7:43 PM. This marked a substantial increase from last year’s 236,953 cakes and even outpaced Valentine’s Day 2025, which recorded 208,207 cake orders. The biggest spike was during the 7 PM hour, which alone accounted for 30,562 cakes.
Top cake-ordering cities included Mumbai, Bangalore, Delhi, Hyderabad and Kolkata , with Muzaffarpur, Jalandhar, Gorakhpur, Meerut and Kanpur seeing the highest growth over last Sunday. The highest single user bill for cake stood at Rs. 9,426 in Mumbai. Interestingly, Tier 2 and 3 cities like Nellore, Ujjain, Srinagar, Hanumangarh, Bhilwara and Kurukshetra also recorded a surge in cake orders, reflecting the growing usage of food delivery offerings in smaller towns.
Bolt-ing with Love: Quick Deliveries, Big Gestures
A total of 31,896 cakes were delivered via Bolt on Mother’s Day—a 181% jump compared to the previous Sunday. The top cities for Bolt cake orders included Mumbai, Delhi, Bangalore, Hyderabad, and Kolkata, while smaller cities like Patna, Surat, Dehradun, Warangal, and Vadodara also saw a notable surge. The most popular dishes ordered via Bolt went beyond just cakes—chicken biryani and veg dosa were among the top items delivered. With a maximum single order value of ₹12,585, featuring multiple biryani buckets, families across metros and smaller towns alike made Bolt their go-to option for quick and thoughtful meal deliveries on this special day.
Dineout with Maa: Family Time Over Fine Dine
Dining out continued to be a cherished ritual. Dineout witnessed a 35% rise in bookings over a typical Sunday, as families came together to treat mothers to a meal out. Tier 1 cities including Delhi, Kolkata, Pune, Mumbai, and Chennai grew by over 30%, reflecting the continued popularity of dining experiences in metro cities. Table sizes of 6-10 people saw a 13% uptick in bookings, indicating larger family gatherings this year. Interestingly, Tier 2 cities showed even stronger growth over a regular Sunday- Vadodara (70%), Dehradun and Lucknow (65% each), Nagpur (60%), and Agra (55%).
From surprise cake deliveries to shared meals and nostalgic bites, Swiggy’s data reveals a beautiful truth, when it comes to celebrating moms, India turns to food with full hearts and full plates.
