Having first joined Meta in 2017 as Public Policy Director for India and South Asia at Facebook, Thukral went on to take the policy reins at WhatsApp in 2020. In 2022, he was elevated to lead the entire public policy function for Meta India across its platforms—Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp—playing a pivotal role in navigating some of the company’s most crucial regulatory milestones.

Before his stint at Meta, Thukral served as Managing Director at Carnegie India, and earlier held senior leadership roles at the Essar Group, including Group President for Corporate Branding and Strategic Initiatives.

While Thukral has not yet publicly shared details of his next move, his departure comes at a time when global tech companies are increasingly engaging with Indian regulators on a wide range of issues, from data privacy and content moderation to AI governance and digital competition.
