State Bank of India (SBI) has announced the appointment of Ravi Ranjan as its Managing Director, effective December 15, 2025. The appointment has been approved by the Department of Financial Services, Ministry of Finance, under the provisions of the State Bank of India Act, 1955, and comes into force from the date he assumed charge.
Ranjan will serve in this role until his superannuation on September 30, 2028, or until further orders, whichever is earlier. The bank confirmed that he has not been disqualified or restrained by any regulatory authority from holding the position of director.
As Managing Director, Ranjan will oversee critical verticals including Risk, Compliance, and the Stressed Assets Resolution Group (SARG). Prior to this elevation, he served as Deputy Managing Director – Global Markets, and earlier led the Corporate Accounts Group as Deputy Managing Director.
His leadership experience also includes heading the SBI Chennai Circle as Chief General Manager, where he managed operations across Tamil Nadu and Puducherry. In addition, he has served as President and Chief Operating Officer of SBICAPS in Mumbai and as General Manager overseeing SBI’s retail network in Bengaluru.
A career banker, Ranjan joined SBI as a Probationary Officer in 1991 and brings over 34 years of experience across multiple areas of banking and finance. His career also includes international stints in Hong Kong, handling debt syndications, and in Los Angeles, California.
