Saugata Mukherjee Exits Sony LIV After Over Three Years

Saugata Mukherjee has decided to step down from his position as EVP and Head of Content – Digital Business at Sony LIV, concluding a tenure of more than three years with the streaming platform. According to sources familiar with the matter, he will continue in his current role until March 15.

Mukherjee joined SonyLIV in 2020, initially taking charge as Head of Original Content before being promoted to EVP and Head of Content. During his time with the platform, he led overall content strategy and supervised the commissioning and development of originals, playing a key role in shaping the service’s digital content slate.

Prior to SonyLIV, Mukherjee served as Head of Content, India, for HBO Max at Warner Bros. Discovery. He also held the position of SVP and Editor – Hotstar Specials at Hotstar, where he was responsible for driving the platform’s original programming initiatives.

Earlier in his career, Mukherjee spent several years at Star TV Network in senior leadership capacities, including Senior Vice President and Vice President – Content. He has also worked in the publishing industry with Pan Macmillan and HarperCollins Publishers.
