Reliance Retail Ventures Ltd (RRVL), the retail holding company of Reliance Industries, has named Jeyandran Venugopal—formerly with Flipkart—as its new President and Chief Executive Officer. The company has created this position as part of its renewed focus on strengthening its retail and ecommerce strategy.
According to media reports, an internal note issued by Isha Ambani, who leads Reliance’s retail and consumer initiatives, stated that Venugopal will collaborate closely with her and the wider leadership team. Guided by Mukesh Ambani and Manoj Modi, he will be responsible for expanding the retail portfolio, accelerating omni-channel initiatives, and enhancing both technological and operational performance.
V Subramaniam continues in his role as Managing Director of RRVL. Until November, RRVL oversaw Reliance Retail Ltd and the FMCG business under Reliance Consumer Products Ltd (RCPL), which has now been carved out as a direct subsidiary of Reliance Industries Ltd effective December 1.
Venugopal most recently held the role of Chief Product and Technology Officer at Flipkart, where he oversaw product engineering, design, data science, IT, security, and infrastructure. He has been instrumental in shaping Flipkart’s product roadmap, improving customer engagement, scaling the ecosystem, and strengthening the platform’s leadership in India’s ecommerce sector.
His prior experience includes serving as Chief Product and Technology Officer at Myntra and Jabong, along with leadership stints at Yahoo and Amazon Web Services. He holds dual master’s degrees in computer science and mechanical engineering from the University of Illinois, along with a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from the College of Engineering, Guindy.
The leadership appointment comes at a time when Reliance is deepening its focus on ecommerce across both B2C and B2B formats, while ramping up its omni-commerce ecosystem. Reliance Retail continues to compete with players such as Amazon, Flipkart, Swiggy Instamart, and Blinkit as the digital commerce landscape intensifies.
