MUMBAI, December 2, 2025 – Oliver Wyman, a global leader in management consulting and a business of Marsh McLennan (NYSE: MMC), today announced the appointment of Bitan Datta as a Partner in its Transportation and Advanced Industrials and Performance Transformation practices.
Bitan brings over two decades of combined consulting and industry experience, having advised leading organizations across industrial goods and adjacent sectors, delivering large-scale transformation programs that have unlocked substantial operational, financial, and competitive gains. His work spans across sectors such as building materials, process industries, off-highway equipment, energy equipment, high-tech manufacturing, automotive suppliers, consumer goods, and life sciences.
Over the course of his career, Bitan has helped clients modernize production systems, strengthen supply chain performance, and embed advanced digital and AI solutions across operations. His transformation programs have generated meaningful and sustainable improvements in market share for clients alongside cost, service level & inventory productivity.
Sharing his views on the manufacturing and industry sector in India, Bitan said, “India’s manufacturing sector is entering a decade where scale, innovation, and resilience will matter more than ever. The companies that win will be those that invest in design, technology, and IP creation while staying agile in the face of geopolitical change. Having worked closely with industry bodies and policy makers, I see tremendous potential for India to lead global value chains across both established industries and fast-growing sectors like electronics and semiconductors.
Joining Oliver Wyman provides a platform to help shape this next chapter, and contribute to defining what India’s manufacturing landscape should look like by 2047—one that is not only globally competitive but also future-ready and strategically relevant.”
In his new role, Bitan will work with organisations to modernise manufacturing systems, enhance supply-chain resilience, and accelerate transformation programmes powered by digital, analytics, and Industry 4.0 technologies. He has also contributed to broader sector-shaping work by collaborating with leading industry bodies and government-linked organisations on competitiveness studies, policy agendas, and capability-building programs for manufacturing ecosystems.
Sumit Sarawgi, India Head at Oliver Wyman, said, “Bitan joins us at a significant moment for the firm in India, as we accelerate our growth and strengthen our sector capabilities in the market. His distinguished portfolio and sector knowledge further advances our ability to help clients navigate structural shifts across industrial and manufacturing ecosystems. His experience will be a significant asset as we expand our work across the region.”
