Linda Yaccarino has stepped down from her role as Chief Executive Officer at X, the social media platform formerly known as Twitter. Her resignation comes just over two years after she was brought on board to guide the company’s business transformation under the ownership of Elon Musk.
Appointed in June 2023, Yaccarino joined X after a successful stint at NBCUniversal, where she was widely recognised for leading global advertising and partnerships. At X, her primary mandate was to help rebuild advertiser trust, lead monetisation efforts, and bring stability during a period of significant internal and public-facing changes.
During her tenure, Yaccarino introduced several brand safety measures and played a key role in launching new monetisation tools and content partnerships. She also oversaw early moves into original programming and the integration of payment functionalities — part of the company’s broader ambition to evolve into an “everything app.”
Her departure follows growing speculation around internal differences in vision, particularly regarding X’s shift towards AI-led development and a stronger push into subscription-based revenue models. No official successor has been named at the time of this announcement.
Yaccarino’s exit marks yet another leadership transition for the company, which has seen a steady stream of changes since Elon Musk’s acquisition in late 2022. The platform continues to reshape its identity as it seeks to diversify revenue streams and redefine its role in the social media landscape.
