IDMIF’s flagship initiative, the Digital Media Content Regulatory Council (DMCRC), was established on May 31, 2021 under the Information Technology (IT) Rules, 2021. Functioning as an independent self-regulatory body for non-news content distributed by IDMIF member Online Curated Content Providers (OCCPs), the DMCRC operates under registration with the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting (MIB). It plays a critical role in promoting responsible content standards while protecting consumer interests and upholding creative freedom.
The DMCRC is chaired by Justice Mukul Mudgal (Retd.) and includes renowned industry experts such as:
Ashwiny Iyer Tiwari – Writer and Filmmaker
Nikkhil Advani – Producer and Director
Deepak Dhar – CEO, Banijay Asia
Tigmanshu Dhulia – Director, Actor, and Screenwriter
Anil Lale – JioHotstar
Ritesh Khosla – SonyLIV
Modelled on the Broadcasting Content Complaints Council (BCCC) – IBDF’s acclaimed self-regulatory body for non-news television content – the DMCRC continues to be a cornerstone of content governance in the OTT space. Justice Mudgal, who previously chaired the BCCC, brings proven leadership and a deep understanding of media regulation to the Council.
The appointment of Kevin Vaz marks a strategic milestone in IDMIF’s journey as it prepares to meet the evolving needs of the digital media sector and strengthen its role as a collaborative, policy-forward industry body.
