CoinDCX Appoints Arvind Kathpalia As Advisor To Strengthen Governance And Risk Framework

CoinDCX, India’s leading cryptocurrency exchange, has brought Arvind Kathpalia—former President and Group Chief Risk Officer at Kotak Mahindra Bank—onto its Advisory Board, marking a significant milestone for the country’s digital assets ecosystem. With close to 40 years of international experience in financial services, Kathpalia will guide the company in fortifying its governance structure and risk oversight as it progresses toward a more regulated operational environment.

In his advisory capacity, Kathpalia will support CoinDCX in advancing its risk management systems, promoting a strong risk-first culture, and ensuring alignment with global best practices. He will also mentor the leadership team on long-term risk planning as the organisation expands within a fast-evolving regulatory landscape.

CoinDCX has consistently prioritised risk governance as a core part of its operations. The company was the first Indian crypto exchange to register with the Financial Intelligence Unit (FIU) under PMLA, has contributed to AML working groups, established the Crypto Investor Protection Fund (CIPF), and voluntarily conducts stringent external audits—setting high transparency and safety standards for the overall industry.

This appointment further reinforces that approach. Kathpalia’s extensive leadership experience across Kotak Mahindra Bank, Standard Chartered, and ANZ—in areas such as risk oversight, technology-driven transformation, operational efficiency and enterprise strategy—positions him to help CoinDCX bridge established financial systems with the emerging Web3 economy.

Speaking on his new role, Arvind Kathpalia said, “CoinDCX is at the forefront of building a safe and transparent digital asset ecosystem in India, at a time when Indians are rapidly recognizing crypto as a future asset class. As the industry transitions towards a more regulated framework, embedding robust risk governance will be critical. I look forward to working with the team to strengthen this foundation and help CoinDCX scale responsibly.”

Sumit Gupta, Co-founder of CoinDCX, added, “At CoinDCX, protecting customer assets through strong governance and compliance is our highest priority. We are committed to bringing the same level of rigor that traditional finance applies, ensuring our users experience the highest standards of safety and trust. The appointment of Mr. Kathpalia, with his deep expertise in risk management, reinforces our mission to build a resilient, future-ready, and compliant exchange.”
