The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has finalised a major sponsorship agreement with Google’s AI platform Gemini, valued at ₹270 crore, ahead of the 2026 Indian Premier League (IPL). The three-year partnership further strengthens the IPL’s robust and diverse sponsor ecosystem.
Confirming the development, a BCCI official told PTI that the association “reinforces IPL’s global appeal,” underscoring the league’s ability to attract leading global brands across sectors.
Gemini’s entry into the IPL sponsorship lineup is particularly notable as its competitor, ChatGPT, is currently associated with the Women’s Premier League (WPL). This trend highlights the increasing interest of global artificial intelligence platforms in aligning with India’s most prominent cricket properties.
According to industry executives, the IPL’s unparalleled television reach and massive digital viewership make it an attractive platform for international technology companies seeking rapid scale and brand familiarity in the Indian market.
Over the past year, BCCI’s sponsorship portfolio has seen significant changes. In 2025, the board was required to onboard a new Team India jersey sponsor after real money gaming platforms were barred by the Indian government, excluding brands such as Dream11. Apollo Tyres subsequently took over the jersey sponsorship, securing the deal for ₹579 crore.
Meanwhile, the Tata Group continues as the IPL title sponsor, with the league retaining its status as the world’s largest T20 competition and one of the most valuable sporting properties globally.
Commenting earlier on sponsor diversification during ChatGPT’s WPL association announcement, BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia had said, “From global leaders in AI, manufacturing and beverages to trusted Indian consumer brands, this partnership mix will play a critical role in shaping the fan experience and supporting the growth of women’s cricket.”
The IPL 2026 season is scheduled to take place from March 26 to May 31.
