Ajay Mehta Steps Down From WPP Media After Over A Decade Of Leadership

Ajay Mehta has stepped away from his position as Head – Content & Creative Services at WPP Media, concluding an impactful tenure of more than eleven years, as per information confirmed by e4m. During this period, he also held the role of Chief Content Officer at Mindshare India.

Mehta is credited with shaping and scaling the branded content function within Mindshare and GroupM, transforming it into a defining strategic pillar for the network. Under his guidance, the vertical grew into a powerful ecosystem connecting brands with platforms, creators, publishers, and entertainment IPs, driving both cultural relevance and business outcomes.

Across his 20-year career in marketing strategy and communications, Mehta has contributed to several leading agencies, including Mindshare, Ogilvy, and Publicis India. He has crafted end-to-end content solutions for marquee clients across sectors such as FMCG, Telecom, Auto, Finance, Retail, and Technology. At Mindshare, he spent nearly nine years in senior leadership roles—most notably as Senior Vice President and Vice President—where he spearheaded content strategy and partnerships for Hindustan Unilever brands, one of India’s most content-forward advertisers.

During his time with GroupM/WPP Media, Mehta’s leadership earned multiple national and global accolades. Among the most notable was the Cannes Glass Lions Grand Prix, a milestone achievement that elevated India’s standing in media-led creative storytelling. His contributions have been acknowledged by platforms such as Campaign Asia, Exchange4Media, Impact, and ET Brand Equity for creativity, innovation, and strategic excellence.

Since August 2024, Mehta led WPP Media’s branded content and creative services function, while continuing to oversee content strategy as Mindshare India’s Chief Content Officer from June 2023.

His departure comes at a time when media agencies are increasingly evaluated on content capability, cross-screen execution, and creative agility, rather than traditional media volume. As WPP Media realigns its leadership responsibilities, Mehta exits leaving behind a robust strategic foundation and an operational model that firmly embedded content as a core business driver within GroupM.
