MakeMyTrip & Zomato Launch On-Train Food Delivery Across India

MakeMyTrip has announced a strategic partnership with Zomato to enhance the travel experience for train passengers across India. Through this collaboration, travellers booking train tickets on MakeMyTrip can now pre-order meals from Zomato’s extensive network of over 40,000 restaurant partners, with delivery available directly to their seats at more than 130 railway stations.

The launch comes at a time when demand for Indian Railways’ e-catering services is growing rapidly. In FY 2024–25 alone, more than 90,000 passengers used e-catering daily, representing a 66% year-on-year increase. With the introduction of the ‘Food on Train’ Marketplace, MakeMyTrip is set to leverage this demand by offering travellers breakfast, lunch, dinner, and snack options through its Live Train Status tool.

During the soft launch, the service has seen strong traction, with passengers showing a preference for travel-friendly meals. To further boost adoption, MakeMyTrip has rolled out a Diwali special promotion offering complimentary coupons redeemable on Zomato food orders for passengers booking train tickets through the platform.

Zomato, an authorised IRCTC partner that has already fulfilled over 4.6 million on-train orders, will now extend its reach through this partnership. Passengers can pre-book meals up to seven days in advance using their PNR details, ensuring convenience and a wide variety of cuisines.

Speaking on the partnership, Raj Rishi Singh, Chief Business Officer (Flights, GCC, Corporate Travel) & CMO at MakeMyTrip, said:
“Over the past few years, we have been growing faster than the overall industry in the train booking domain, driven by a sustained focus on customer-centric innovations. With the launch of our Food on Train Marketplace, we are taking another step in enhancing the travel experience by giving passengers greater choice and convenience. This collaboration with Zomato builds on that momentum and will contribute to strategically unlocking one of the fastest-growing consumption opportunities in India’s mobility ecosystem.”

Rahul Gupta, VP – Product, Zomato, added:
“Our commitment to ‘Serving India’ drives everything we do, and we are constantly looking for ways to make our customers’ experiences seamless and enjoyable. This collaboration with MakeMyTrip enables train passengers to conveniently order meals from their favourite restaurants through the MakeMyTrip platform, with direct food delivery to their seats. We are truly excited about the value this partnership will bring to our customers.”

The partnership between MakeMyTrip and Zomato reflects the growing integration of travel and food-tech ecosystems, creating seamless and enjoyable journeys for millions of passengers across India.
