In a significant leadership appointment that reflects Amazon India’s intent to bolster its advertising ecosystem, Gulshan Verma has been named to lead the LCSÂ business at Amazon Ads. He steps into the role following the exit of Vijay Iyer in December 2024.
Verma, a seasoned leader with over 20 years of experience across digital advertising and media, brings a wealth of expertise to the role. His most recent position was as CEO of JioAds, where he spearheaded the advertising initiatives at Jio Platforms since 2021. Friday marked his final day at JioAds, with Verma expected to take charge at Amazon Ads starting Monday.
Prior to his stint at JioAds, Verma was instrumental in scaling Disney+ Hotstar’s ad business, increasing revenues over eightfold during his tenure. His professional journey spans leadership roles at Times Internet, Outbrain, Komli Media, Yahoo!, Ernst & Young, and McKinsey, reflecting a well-rounded grasp of both technology and business strategy.
Verma’s appointment comes at a time when Amazon Ads India is experiencing remarkable growth. The company’s advertising revenue touched ₹6,649 crore in FY24, marking a 24% YoY growth. With approximately 10% share of India’s digital ad spend, Amazon has rapidly become a dominant force in the evolving digital advertising landscape.
This growth has been driven by rising digital adoption, deeper internet penetration, and a surge in online shopping behaviors across Indian consumers.
Industry insiders believe Verma’s leadership will be pivotal in driving client-centric innovations, optimizing ad performance, and further solidifying Amazon’s position in India’s digital advertising market.
Amazon Ads India has yet to issue an official comment on the appointment.
